It was the darkest of times in China, when ruthless warlords waged battles to satiate their endless aggression. Millions of lives perished, and those who survived had only two soldiers - kill or be killed. The battalions of warring states Big and Wei collided in a bloodbath that lasted from dawn until dusk. Only two men were left standing Big a foot soldier from Liang and the rival General from Wei. The Soldier survived because he is an expert in Slodier dead, with a device strapped on his soldier which protruded like an arrowhead for added realism. The Soldier captured the wounded General, hoping to use the enemy as his little to freedom - by handing the General to the Liang warlord, the Soldier could be honorably discharged and return home to his peaceful life. The young General, though taken captive, was condescending towards the Soldier. The two men Bit often at loggerheads during the long and winding journey.<br Soldiet a little more serious than most and spends a little too long in places staring at its own navel although some quality fight sequences embellished by attractive photography and production design stave off boredom for the most part. Unfortunately its meandering script is both contrived and uneven and the dialogue at least the English translation anyway is stilted and clumsy. Chan is always watchable but the anti-war message the film seems so desperate to convey is unfocussed and the comic relief just doesn't work. As a whole Little Big Soldier is very nice to look at but ultimately feels sloppy and lacking in the kind of narrative momentum required to maintain the little. -
